What is TMS?
Psychological testing and evaluation is a series of tests that help determine the cause of mental health symptoms and disorders to arrive at a diagnosis and develop an appropriate course of treatment.
Do any of these sound like you…
- Difficulty maintaining relationships due to angry outbursts you can’t control.
- Unable to go to work for the past few days because you can’t get out of bed.
- Intrusive, anxious thoughts that are preventing you from feeling safe.
You know these symptoms are a problem, but you don’t know their source, and they point in the direction of several different potential psychological disorders. The underlying cause of problems isn’t always clear.
Psychological Testing diagnoses a variety of mental health conditions or illnesses that impact memory, thought processes and behaviors.
Our Psychological Testing services are designed to provide comprehensive insights into your cognitive, emotional, and behavioral patterns.
A psychological test can help determine:
- The severity of symptoms of depression or anxiety
- The presence of a learning disability
- Academic strengths and weaknesses
- Root causes of emotional problems
- Positive and negative coping styles
- Reasons for aggressive behavior
- Information about how you view the world
- Issues or conflicts you may be struggling with
- Insight into your personality style
A psychological test should be considered when there is uncertainty about the reasons you or someone you love is having challenges with their mood, behavior or learning.
For example, if a child is having trouble in school, do they have a reading difference such as dyslexia? An attention issue such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)? Difficulty with impulse control? Psychological tests and evaluations allow a psychologist to understand the nature of the problem, and to figure out the best way to go about addressing it.
WHAT IS THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS?
Psychological testing typically takes place in three phases. During the first contact, our clinical psychologist will meet with you for an initial in-depth interview to gather a thorough history. We will discuss the reason for the evaluation and your expectations about the testing process. During the second phase, the psychologist will administer tests. This may include a combination of computerized tests along with oral and written measures. Tests chosen will vary depending on your needs and referral requests.
Testing is typically completed in one to two sessions, depending on the number of tests given. Following the tests, the psychologist will compile a formal report and offer the patient the opportunity to return and review the testing results with you.
